Introduction

Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Center is an office operating under the Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries Development, which falls under the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of Gandaki Province.

Following the People's Movement of 2062/63 B.S. (2006 A.D.), which replaced the constitutional monarchy with a democratic republican system, the new constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly legally transformed the country into a federal structure, resulting in the establishment of seven provinces. In this context, the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives was established on 2074/10/22 B.S. (February 5, 2018 A.D.) with the objective of mobilizing the cooperative sector for the economic, social, and agricultural development of Gandaki Province. This policy emphasizes the utilization of land based on its nature, promoting mechanization, commercialization, marketization, and modernization of agriculture and livestock-based production and trade, thereby creating a competitive environment, transforming the sector, and generating employment opportunities.

Within its jurisdiction, this center—being a potential hub for commercial livestock and fisheries development—aims to make the province self-reliant in animal-based products such as milk, meat, eggs, and fish, and to promote exports. To achieve this, the center has been focusing on programs like livestock breed improvement, animal feed development, animal health protection, development of scientific technologies and skills, and commercialization, along with processing and market management of animal-based products.

This office is committed to increasing livestock productivity to make rural communities self-reliant and capable by enhancing food security, nutrition, income, and employment for rural families while maintaining environmental and social balance, thereby contributing to poverty reduction.
